The flag seen here has been issued by Lions Clubs International World Headquarters in Illinois, USA.
The flag commemorates 90 years of Lionism around the world. It was Melvin Jones who started the movement on June 7, 1917.
Melvin Jones rallied the aid of other successful business people to put their talents to work improving their communities.
He invited delegates from men's business clubs to meet in Chicago to lay the groundwork for this organisation.
Melvin Jones, the man whose personal code "You can't get very far until you start doing something for somebody else," became a guiding
principle for public-spirited people the world over. He died June 1, 1961 at 82 years of age.
This
flag was presented by associate member Alison Johnston from Wellington, New Zealand. Alison recently travelled to the USA
and purchased 2 flags when visiting World Headquarters in Chicago, Illinois. This one was presented to President John Choma
by Alison when she attended a meeting here in October of 2007.
Alison is a member of the Lions Club (ROAR) of Karori in Wellington, NZ.
