Penrith Community Kitchen
The Penrith
Community Kitchen is a non-profit organisation set up to provide meals, without cost,
to the homeless and low income families throughout the area. The mission
of the organisation is to provide a friendly, warm and comfortable environment where
those in need can enjoy a free nourishing meal and the lonely can enjoy the company of others.
The Lions Club of Emu Plains
are proud to be regular sponsors of the community kitchen. A great deal of money is needed
to run the centre and it relies heavily on community support and business sponsorship as well as
local fund raising to make ends meet. The kitchen receives no money or
support from the government.
Pictured here are Lions
Phillip Innes (left) and Phillip Clarke (right) delivering the annual donation of Christmas cakes to the Penrith kitchens
Manager Kathy Craig and some of the valuable volunteers giving their time to
feed and spread some Christmas cheer among those finding it difficult to make ends meet.
If anyone can
assist with a donation, a cheque or money order can be forwarded to:- Penrith Community
Kitchen, PO Box 516, Penrith NSW 2750. Volunteers are also needed to help to prepare
and serve meals. For further information, any member from this site can be contacted
either by email or phone. There is also a number for the kitchen, ph. 4721 1444.

Nepean Food Services Inc.
The Nepean food services
(Meals on Wheels) is a non-profit community organisation which is funded by the Department of Ageing,
Disability and Home Care Program (HACC) which in turn is jointly funded by the State and Federal Governments.
HACC is a home and community project which aims
to assist the aged frail and people with disabilities, allowing them to live independently within the community
as opposed to being admitted to a residential facility. These services rely heavily on volunteers to deliver
the meals to the recipients in their homes.
Hot meals are available weekdays (Monday-Friday) with
a frozen food service available for weekends and public holidays. Frozen food can be ordered in place of the hot meals (or
a mix of both) depending on individual needs.
The Emu Plains Lions donate a quantity of Christmas
cakes annually to the service. For more information on this programme or becoming a volunteer,
the office can be contacted on 4733 7200.
